With nearly 500 beaches spread across four bodies of water, including the very popular Maya Riviera on the Caribbean Sea in the Yucatan Peninsula and around Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit on the Pacific Coast, Mexico is well known as a beach destination. Mexican coastal resorts have been hosting families for generations now, and regardless of budget, you’ll find kid-focused amenities and excellent service.

1. Barcelo Maya Palace, Puerto Aventuras
About 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen in Puerto Aventuras, on the Maya Riviera, the family-friendly Barceló Maya Palace is part of the larger Barcelo Maya Grand Resort complex. Guests at this four-star property have access to five other family-friendly properties on the grounds.
The all-inclusive resort also has a number of family suites with minibars stocked with juices, cereals, and milk, as well as microwaves. They also feature two bedrooms and super comfy beds with quality linens.
When it comes to dining, there are 26 restaurants across the resorts to choose from. There are also 14 swimming pools and three on-site water parks (some have an extra fee).
The Ventura Fly & Ride Park, which is the newest addition to the resort complex, is worth the extra fee to experience the Fly section. The zipline course is exhilarating, as is the bungee jump and parachute landing, which are all included in the base rate.
Other amenities include a bowling alley; ice-skating rink; and the U-Spa, which offers hydrotherapy and superlative treatments for adults, as well as a Kids Spa for your little ones, with kid-themed treatments and hair-braiding.

2. Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas

The five-star resort sits right on the beach and welcomes families. There is a kids’ club with daily activities and games, as well as kids’ menus at the restaurants. Babysitting can also be arranged.
The all-suite property also offers connecting suites for families with older kids. All suites come with private plunge pools, which children will love. Adults will dig the very comfortable king beds and the lovely design scheme.

4. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Riviera Nayarit
The Velas Resorts brand is known for taking all-inclusive restaurants to the next level, delivering consistently good food at its resorts. The Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is no exception.
This family-friendly property is easy to access from the Puerto Vallarta airport and sits on a pretty stretch of golden sand on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It has separate kids’ and teen clubs with activities, as well as a children’s pool.
The resort is an all-suite affair, and these are five-star quality, with Nespresso machines and high-end linens on comfortable beds. Rooms also feature ocean views and balconies.

5. Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas, Cabo San Lucas
Kids will love paddling around the giant, manmade saltwater lagoon swimming pool in a kayak or on a stand up paddleboard while staying at the Grand Solmar Rancho San Lucas in the Los Cabos area.
This new resort is part of the Rancho San Lucas development and sits on a gold-sand beach backed by the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean. The ocean is too rough for swimming here, but is pretty for sunset strolls. Other kid-friendly amenities at the lagoon include a waterslide and a swinging rope jump. There are also a few different swimming pools and hot tubs.
Accommodation is in spacious suites, with marble floors and patios accessed via floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. The suites have full kitchens, which is another family-friendly perk. Parents will also appreciate the Jacuzzi tubs in the bedrooms, which are separated from the living space.

Dreams sits on a pretty white-sand beach backed by turquoise sea and has tidal pools that are also a hit with children.

Also on the Baja Peninsula in San Jose del Cabo, the super luxe Las Ventanas al Paraiso is another top option for a five-star resort-style family vacation. The resort is right on the beach (although you can’t swim here, the Pacific is just too rough).
